An Old-Fashioned Canteen

I first came across this Kampung Kopitiam and was immediately intrigued. After putting off for a few months, today I finally made a trip to this old-fashioned canteen tucked in a corner of Seletar Camp. The place reminds me of an outdoor eating place in Malaysia, where one can sit under the trees and eat to our heart's content.

Since it was a Saturday, there are only two stalls opened. One is the drinks stall, selling drinks, snacks and buns, the other the Malay staff selling a variety of food like mixed rice, noodles, etc. I ordered the dried mee siam, with fried egg and chicken wing, and it is cheap! Costs me only S$1.70 for the whole set. Plus it is delicious too!

A glass of iced tea cost less than S$1.00.

The Seletar camp is being renovated to become the new aerospace hub. Many of the stalls originally there have moved out. In fact, this canteen is also standing on its last legs. So it is best to go find this place before it is gone forever, like all the other old buildings and nostalgic places of olde.
